Shopping For a Vacation Home During Hurricane Season 2015? Here's What to Expect
Planning a relaxing getaway trip to Florida to enjoy nice summer vacation or to perhaps shop for the perfect vacation home or condo? If so, you may or may not know that hurricane season is already upon us, meaning stormy weather and rain is almost inevitable at some point during your stay. But despite the intimidating name, hurricane season in Florida can often be pretty mild, as we’ve gone 9 years and counting without a landfalling hurricane 3 or higher.
So, what can we expect for hurricane season 2015?
First, for out-of-staters who still aren’t exactly familiar with what the season means, the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1st to November 30th, with the peak of the season between early August and the end of October. Strictly based on years’ past, the Atlantic region will generally face 12 tropical storms a year, with 6 usually turning into hurricanes with 74 mph winds or greater. In addition, usually only one or two hurricanes reach land on the U.S. coast each year, so the chance of your trip being ruined or dramatically affected is still pretty slim.
This year, weather experts are calling for another mild hurricane season, predicting fewer than the average number of storms Florida usually sees. The NOAA is calling for a season with between 6 to 11 named storms, 3 to 6 hurricanes, and up to 2 major hurricanes; while The Weather Channel is predicting 9 named storms five hurricanes, and 1 major hurricane in 2015.
