A Closer Look at All Aboard Florida
A planned intercity rail project is closer to becoming reality for Palm Beach County. The high-speed rail line, All Aboard Florida, is projected to someday run dozens of daily trains, connecting Downtown Miami with Orlando, including stops in West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale along the way. Â
Construction is already well underway on the stations, with plans to use nearly 200 miles of already exiting rail lines up and down the coast. The first service to open to passengers should be between West Palm Beach and Miami sometime in early 2017, followed later in the year with full service available between Miami and Orlando. Â
In West Palm Beach the station will be located just a few blocks away from downtown’s Clematis District, as well as close to the Palm Beach County Convention Center. Plans for a Fort Lauderdale station include connecting it to the Sun Trolley and the Broward County Transit System. The Orlando Station will be conveniently adjacent to Orlando International Airport. Â
Right now by car, the entire trip takes about four hours, although the rail service is projected to only take about three hours, with 16 northbound and 16 southbound trains running each day of the week. Trains are expected to run on the hour, with services including meal and beverages for sale, Wi-Fi and online reservations. Ticket prices have not yet been announced. Â
All Aboard Florida aims to give travelers and commuters a safe and relaxing way to travel up and down Florida’s east coast with ease. Â
